A new $28 million recreation center will be built on this land this summer.
Aurora is building a new recreation center! The new Aurora Central Recreation Center will be built on 20 acres near Tower Rd. and E. Vassar Pl that was purchased in 1998 for this purpose. The project is funded through marijuana tax revenue. After an extensive public input process, plans for the recreation center were approved by the City Council on Jan. 23. Construction of the two-story building of approximately 55,000 square feet is expected to begin in the summer of 2017 and completed in the fall of 2018. The new recreation center will include an aquatics area, gymnasium, and elevated walking/jogging track and fitness area.
