Smoky Hill Road Radome

On Smoky Hill Road, east of E-470, sits a giant "golf ball" or radome which covers a giant radar dish.  What is it used for?

It is operated by the FAA and is not connected to the Buckley golf balls.  It has been active since 1963.  It is part of the Joint Surveillance System, which is jointly operated by the FAA and the US Air Force.

  3. RF levels were measuring very high near the base of the structure. RF radiation somewhat dissipated with some distance.
